Hello. I am mastering a short film I have edited.
At all stages it was at REC 709, including the graded master,
I have imported it into AE for resizing (anamorphic lenses were used) and crucially, to slow down to 24fps for DCP.
All of this has worked well, and the DCP I created with AE and AME played perfectly in a test cinema.
....with the notable exception of a very dark scene in a red tent lit from outside, where the scene became a mess of basically four colour bands of red.
I saw in the grade and the output file (dnxHD185x) more than enough colour/luma information to make out all details in this scene, but I am confused as to why the bit depth has disappeared for the DCP,
My AE project is 16 bit, and I am not introducing any colour space management, The rest of the film looks perfect.
I guess what I'm looking for is for AE or AME to 'dither' the gradients better, without necessarily slapping artificial grain over the scene to force better dithering.
Any thoughts? Thanks for your time.
