I work with a lot of PoV GoPro shots from various model Hero cameras. My personal camera is a Hero 4 Silver, and for most purposes I'm shooting at 1080p 59.94 FPS with ProTune on, native white balance, neutral color scheme.
I'm wondering if it's worth it to transcode the camera's MP4s to GoPro Cineform before I edit them. My system is powerful enough that I've had up to seven MP4 videos running at once in Premiere Pro with no performance issues, even with quite a bit of color-grading effects applied (I do use GPU acceleration).
GoPro claims that Cineform provides "video quality improvements," but I don't see how encoding to another lossy format will improve the video quality. It should degrade it, right? Already my videos go through enough compression as it is. GoPro MP4>H.264>YouTube
So will Cineform give me any kind of quality improvement? Will it give me more leeway in color grading?
